With over 30 years of professional experience, K.D. Lakshman has made a significant contribution
to Sri Lanka’s architectural landscape.
A graduate of the University of Moratuwa, he practiced architecture with a focus on environmentally responsive and sustainable design. His projects, primarily residential developments and eco-conscious built environments across Sri Lanka are recognized for their integration of traditional Sri Lankan architectural values within contemporary spatial design.
Deeply influenced by the environmental philosophy of architect Vijitha Basnayake, Lakshman developed a design approach grounded in climatic sensitivity, material honesty, and harmony with landscape. His architecture prioritizes natural ventilation, passive cooling, and contextual integration rather than imposing form upon environment.
He also served as a Visiting Lecturer at the Faculty of Architecture, University of Moratuwa, where he taught Town and Country Planning, contributing to the academic development of future architects.
For Lakshman, architecture and art are not separate disciplines. Both are rooted in observation, structure, and an understanding of space, whether physical or internal.
